(Gordon) Clarke planted the original oak trees on the Courthouse Square. The trees were found in the woods surrounding Wrightsville and transplanted. Other children of Susie Mae and Gordon Clarke were Estelle Chester, Jeanette Brown, Claxton Clarke, and Leland Clarke. The young oak trees may be seen in this 1923 photograph.
 
Mrs. Louise Dodd, a former Wrightsville resident, remembers when movie actor, Richard Widmark, visited the Wrightsville Theatre in the 1950′s on a Hollywood promotional tour.
