Gifted students participate in tree plantings

Gifted students participate in tree plantings

The City of Wrightsville Tree Board celebrated Georgia Arbor Day on February 19th by planting six trees in and around the downtown area. Will Tanner, local forester, graciously donated all trees to the project. A Little Gem Magnolia was planted on the courthouse square and live oaks and a Shumard Oak were planted in other areas.  Gina Bright’s gifted class was present for the plantings and a question and answer  session
conducted by Rodney Soles of the tree board. It is hoped the Wrightsville will become a USA Tree City for 2010. Wrightsville’s Tree board members are Chan Carter, Joy Hoover and Rodney Soles. Thanks for your great work!

Charlene Milligan retired in August 2009 from the Chamber after serving in the capacity of Administrative Officer for ten years. She will be missed! The Chamber hosted a surprise retirement reception to honor Charlene on September 3, where many of Charlene’s family, friends and chamber members gathered to wish her well.

Taking her place is Lynn Lamb, a Johnson County resident. Lynn began working alongside Charlene Milligan on August 24 to learn the tricks of the trade and she is eager to serve the Chamber members in this capacity. A resident of Johnson County since 1993, Lynn and her husband, Jeffery, live in the Buckeye district, and have two sons, Sean, 11, and Wade, 8.  She and her family are active members of Ivey Baptist Church, where Lynn has served as the AWANA Commander for the past three years, and also serves on the Youth Committee. She also served as the 2008-2009 Johnson County Elementary PTO President. She is the daughter of Ronald and Lynn Todd of Kite. We encourage you to stop by the depot and welcome Lynn to the chamber. She looks forward to working with each of you to reach our goal of building a better community.

The Wrightsville-Johnson County Emergency Management Agency is trying to reach as many citizens as possible to notify them of the addition of the Emergency Notification System to the county. The system will call all submitted phone numbers to warn of impending danger. Receiving advanced warnings of impending danger such as natural disasters, hazardous material spills and other public safety issues, will provide a safety net and better protection for Johnson County citizens.

All citizens within Johnson County are urged to access the following web page in order to be forewarned of Official Watches, Warnings, Advisories and Bulletins.   https://login.coderedweb.com/codereddataentry/Default.aspx?groupid=heM%2bRunT%2feZRDWDsl5by2g%3d%3d If Internet access is not available for signup, citizens may contact either City Hall (864-3303) or the the Johnson County Commission (864-3388).
