Chamber Annual Banquet

The Chamber will host their annual Banquet on Thursday, February 9th at 7:00pm at the First United Methodist Church Reception Hall.  Entertainment will be provided by Derrick Tennant, Comedian. Derrick Tennant is quickly becoming the nation’s #1 requested CLEAN Comedian.  

In addition to a night of fun entertainment, the Chamber will serve a delicious ribeye steak dinner provided by Teresa’s Catering.  Tickets are $20.00 each and may be purchased at the Chamber office at the Depot.  Tables may be reserved for churches, organizations, businesses, etc.   Tickets must be purchased in advance, tickets will not be sold at the door.  The Chamber is planning for a big crowd and space is limited.  Visit  www.leftarmcomedy.com to learn more about Derrick.

Nathalie Dupree Comes to Wrightsville!

Better Hometown of Wrightsville hosted a very special occasion November 10th: Nathalie Dupree, well-known chef, cookbook author and personality, visited Wrightsville that day to take part in a fundraiser to honor the memory of her friend, Louise Dodd. A luncheon was held at the 1st United Methodist Church Reception Hall in Wrightsville together with a silent auction, remarks by Nathalie Dupree, door prizes and book signings. The menu consistded of recipes from Nathalie’s Shrimp and Grits Cookbook with the dessert recipe being one of Louise Dodd’s….all prepared by Teresa’s Catering of Wrightsville. Many thanks to all who supported this fund raiser including Sponsors, Teresa’s Catering and The Herald Publishing. TV 35, Dublin’s hometown station, filmed Nathalie’s speech and remarks by sponsors and attendees. Johnson County Receives Camera Ready Designation

During the September 14th Governor’s Conference on Tourism, Governor Nathan Deal and the Georgia Film, Music and Digital Entertainment Office designated 23 Georgia additional counties as Camera Ready Communities. The program now includes 112 counties across the state. Shown receiving the designation for Johnson County from Craig Dominy is Debbie Gaston, Mary Ann Norris and Rebecca Lovett, Johnson County’s Camera Ready Liaison.

Georgia is the only state that has developed a program like this.

The Scenes of Johnson County Photo Contest sponsored by Better Hometown of Wrightsville, announces the winning photographs. Sammy Hall’s
two photos of buildings in downtown Wrightsville were chosen as 1st and 2nd place winners over other entries. The contest was held in an
effort to obtain photos for the Georgia Camera Ready Program, which allows production companies to view scenes of Georgia’s authentic landscapes and
downtowns for possible film and TV productions. Most of Sammy’s entries focused on Wrightsville’s historic downtown buildings. Congratulations Sammy!

Better Hometown’s Gas Giveaway Winner

Little Stella Claire Boone drew the winning ticket for Better Hometown’s gas giveaway over the festival weekend, with Sharon Ivey being the lucky winner of $100 in gift certificates for gas or merchandise from Jet Food Stores. Thanks to all those who supported the project, which benefits Better Hometown’s ongoing downtown revitalization efforts and thanks to Jet Food Stores of Georgia, who partnered with Better Hometown to make the project possible!

Johnson County Historical Society Membership Drive

 A membership drive is underway for the Johnson County Historical Society. The dues are as follows: Single Membership, $10; Family Membership, $25; Child Membership, $5; Business Membership, $50. The historical society is in the process of remodeling the Grice House to accommodate the Chamber of Commerce offices. This will enable the historical society to house a museum at the Grice House and have someone available to operate it. All membership donations are tax deductible and should be mailed to P.O. Box 87, Wrightsville, GA 31096.

Commissioners Meetings Agenda Rules

Members of the public who wish to be put on the Johnson County Commissioners’ Meeting agenda, must submit a request in writing to the county administrator at least three days prior to the 2nd Monday of each month. A majority vote of the board is required to pass the request before it may be added to the agenda.

Mother’s Day Vintage Apron Display

Most of us have memories of a mother or grandmother in her old fashioned apron. This year  for  Mother’s Day, Better Hometown is proudly sponsoring an old fashioned apron display in downtown store windows.  You will find the apron displays on Elm Street across from the Square at Nana’s Kitchen, Kreative Kreations, Unique Designs and Sheppard’s Florist (shown at right).

Streetscape Sponsorships

Better Hometown continues to sponsor historic-styled lampposts ($1000), trees ($250) and engraved pavers ($30) for the just completed streetscape project. All sponsorship donations are tax de-deductible under the law. Applications are available at the BHT Office, City Hall and on this site as well as photos of Lamppost plaques. This is a great way to keep alive the names of family members or a business!
